Paws & Effect: My dogs are human!

Developer: Shimmersoft

Platform: PC

Category: Comedy, Slice of Life

Official Site: http://shimmersoft.com/paws-effect

Available at: Itch.io, Gamejolt, Steam (to be released on Feb 14!)

What it is (from the site):

Paws & Effect: My Dogs Are Human! is a quirky romp that seeks to answer an age-old question: What would happen if your pets suddenly became people?

Chaos. Naturally.

Assume the role of Sadie (name customizable), a young woman with aspirations of being a lawyer, as she grapples with perhaps the greatest legal challenge of her life: Keeping her two dogs out of jail after they mysteriously transform into humans, somehow capable of speech and eager to abuse the newfound power of thumbs. What will Sadie teach them about the human condition? What will she discover about herself? And who is behind all this nonsense? You’ll have to play to find out!

The devs contacted me about their new game so I checked out the game’s website, and I thought it looked cute and fun. To try out their game, they sent me their presskit which included 3 versions (Win, Mac, and browser) of the game and a very helpful fact sheet. While I did try the browser one a bit, I played most of the game using the Win version.

So here are my thoughts about it~!

[Game] Alternate Jake Hunter: DAEDALUS The Awakening of Golden Jazz DEMO

ダイダロス:ジ・アウェイクニング・オブ・ゴールデンジャズ | Alternate Jake Hunter: DAEDALUS The Awakening of Golden Jazz

Publisher: Arc System Works

Developer: Neilo

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PS4, PC (Steam)

Category: Adventure

Release Date: May 23, 2019

Official Site: EN

Summary from the Nintendo page:

That was one month ago today.

Someone has murdered Saburo’s grandfather, Kyosuke, while he was living in New York.

Saburo sets off to New York to sort through the belongings and memories his grandfather left behind.

The nostalgia of the cityscape and reunions with old friends is fleeting, however.

He soon discovers that his grandfather’s last word was, ‘Daedalus.’

What does it mean?

Why was my grandfather killed?

“Remember, Saburo: tend the orchard of your mind.”

Kyosuke’s words and teachings on the art of thinking are just distant memories.

And yet, young Jinguji Saburo who is alone in the world, takes up the gauntlet for himself and for his late grandfather!

First things first, this post is for the demo of Alternate Jake Hunter: DAEDALUS The Awakening of Golden Jazz, which I’ll be referring to throughout the post as Daedalus because gosh, the title is a mouthful lol.

Daedalus is released this year with a price of $39.99. I’ve seen its VNDB page and is surprised to know that the length of the game is only about 2-10 hours long. On How Long to Beat website, it is 6 ½ hours — granted that this is from 1 user alone. I thought the full game would be pretty long especially with that price. But now, I’m not sure if it’s worth it?

Then again, this is just the demo so let’s dive in. 😁

[7’scarlet] 11 Things I Missed

Replaying is something I don’t really do often. Doing it for 7’scarlet made me realized that there were bits and pieces of details I missed the first time I played the game. It’s a fine discovery and it made me appreciate the writing through these foreshadowing more.

[7’scarlet] Impressions of an RPG Gamer

PS Vita’s life has come to an end. I am sad about that fact as it’s my favorite gaming platform ever since it replaced PSP. All of my favorite Visual Novels, especially otome games, are PS Vita releases.

To think, otome games have just been localized in the Western in recent years.

If you’re new in the otome gaming world and feels pretty bummed out that it lost one of its primary gaming platforms, fret not.

Companies like Intragames are porting VNs, most importantly otome games, to PC via Steam. For this post, I partnered with Intragames to bring you their latest release, 7’scarlet.

7’scarlet is a mystery otome game set in the far-flung country of Okunezato. The heroine Ichiko Hanamaki, visits the place to search for clues for her missing brother. As she delves deeper into the country, she uncovers the many mysteries and secrets of Okunezato and its residents.

I’ve already played this game last year. Since I’ve already uncovered the secrets once, I’ve decided to play this with my good friend for a different POV. So here’s Nami!

Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds (薄桜鬼 真改 風ノ章)

Company: Otomate
Release Date: August 24, 2017
Platform: PC (Steam)
Walkthrough used: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1122528878

In a nutshell

In the hopes of finding her father, Chizuru goes to Kyoto to search for him. Instead, she finds the Shinsengumi. Shinsengumi members are a bunch of guys who protect the city but is also feared by the people. However, these guys are searching for her father as well. So together, they search for Chizuru’s father while she stays with them.

I was really hesitant to play this game since I felt like there was so much to catch up on, what’s with the long line of Hakuoki titles. Even with the two new titles, it was hard for me to know what was the difference between Kyoto Winds and Edo Blossoms. But my curiosity won and I’m so glad I played the game.

Tsunderella (ツンデレラ)

Tsunderella

Once upon a time, there lived a boy named Tsunderella who works at a cross-dressing bar owned by his family. Every day, he works so hard despite being mistreated by his step-mother and step-sisters (brothers?). As his birthday nears, his worst fear of working directly with the customers looms. All he ever wanted is to spend his life growing vegetables with his fated person.
