Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice

Platform: Nintendo 3DS

It took me 3 years before I got around to playing the DLCs. 😱

So I got 3 cases, the change of outfits for Phoenix, Athena, and Apollo, and the pixel themes which are included with the cases. I don’t really care about the rest of the DLCs aside from the trials. Nick’s outfit though 😂. If you haven’t seen them, here’s a video from Megaman NG from Youtube:

Let’s start with the Asinine stories. To get this out of the way, these extra contents are “what-if” scenarios only and everything that happens is just for the heck of it. Each content is only about 30minutes long.

May contain spoilers so proceed with caution!

Phoenix Wright: Asinine Attorney

Phoenix goes to Khura’in to meet up with Maya and Pearl. Instead, they got roped up to a trial for Princess Rayfa where Nick faces Edgeworth as our defense attorney bluffs his way out to save the day… or will he?

From Ace Attorney Wiki

Apollo Justice: Asinine Attorney

In America, Apollo and Klavier Gavin play the role of a tourist guide for Princess Rayfa. Caught between her wish to visit her dream tourist spot and doing her duties in Khura’in, Rayfa decides to do a mock trial with Apollo and Klavier on their respective sides.

While these cases are short and are only mock trials, you can still get penalize when you get wrong answers. Apollo’s case can even have a bad ending of sorts. But if you’re wondering if it’s worth the price, hmm, probably not. Unless there would ever be a time that there is a sale, like mine, then get it.

Turnabout Time Traveler

Story | Characters

Positive ♡(。- ω -)

Turnabout Time Traveler is the only full case among the 3 stories included in the DLC. This turnabout features Phoenix as the lead defense attorney.

The defendant, Ellen Wyatt, claims that she was attacked after her wedding reception. In order to avoid it, she travels back in time. But this time, the assailant turns up dead and Wyatt is the main suspect.

While I find the mastermind easy to guess, that won’t be my basis why I enjoyed this trial. Turnabout Time Traveler is a well-thought-out case, not something that’s shoved in for some sales. There’s a plot, a proper investigation, and trial. It is even a two-day trial.

I loved how the time travel theme is applied in the story. For one, the cast here brings back the memories of the first Ace Attorney game, the first case even, with Phoenix as a lawyer, Maya as his assistant, Larry Butz as the trouble maker, and Miles Edgeworth as the prosecutor. Too bad there’s no Gumshoe. But we got Ema and I loved her so I have no complaints about that. Aside from that, there’s also the metaphorical meaning of the theme which I won’t be able to explain more or I’ll risk the chance of spoiling.

Art

The game takes after the art of Spirit of Justice so even Larry has an updated design. Turnabout Time Traveler even got a small anime part.

Enjoyment (✯◡✯)

I enjoyed Time Traveler out of all the DLCs. It made me missed the game, its gameplay, and its line of quirky characters. It is also a squeal-worthy moment when the recurring cast is reintroduced.

Highlights

My favorite is everyone’s reappearance. Like all of them — Nick, Maya, Pearl, Ema, Klavier, Miles, Alhbi, and even Larry!
