So I finally gave in and started Love and Deepspace (LaDS)!
For about a year, I tried so hard to avoid LaDS. With all the risque ads and posts I’ve seen floating around the net, I thought this is just a gooner bait game for women which is fine, really. I’m used to seeing female characters introduced left and right all the time in other gacha games I’m playing, that husbando characters feel like a breath of fresh air. It’s just that, based on the ‘scenes’ in ads, this game isn’t for me.
LaDS’s popularity continues to grow, though, breaking the chart for mobile gaming sales with the introduction of Sylus and now, Caleb. That got me really interested. The thing is, I already have tons of gacha games at the moment, and if I’m being smart (which I’m not), I don’t need a new addition.
Now, I have been playing the game daily for almost 2 months, and I can say that LaDS is very different from what I initially thought! I went in without any idea of how things work or what it is about. I only know that there’s a battle system. That’s it. So far, I enjoy everything.
The main story is a visual novel with challenges in between. These challenges are boss fights that you have to complete to proceed to the next chapter. The battle is kinda like Wuthering Waves as well as the enemies. I love that it has an auto-battle, though. Letting it play while I do other things is such a time saver. If you’re also not very good in combat or hate the controls on mobile, the auto-battle is helpful, too. Farming, like in every gacha game, is a pain to do. Good thing, auto-farming becomes available once you beat the level.
It’s fun to mess with the guys by interacting with them. I think my first week of playing is spent poking and sending random emoticons to them or just replying to their posts. Or you can go on a “date” with them, take pictures, play claw games, and kitty card games.
The LIs:
Let’s start with the OG 3. I use JP audio with EN texts so I might interchange their JP and EN names a lot. I love their JP names, though. I think they suit them.
Xavier / Seiya
I thought Seiya was someone younger than MC. With that babyface, I was sure he was supposedly the “younger boyfriend” type.
He’s actually MC’s colleague in the Hunter Association who is very strong. He reminds me of those students who always sleep in class yet somehow, end up getting the top grades. Hehe.
He’s quiet and mysterious, at first, and he reminds me so much of Kei-chan from TokiMemo Girl’s side 1 so I can’t help but be a softie for him. Plus, in his texts and other interactions with him, he says weird (but good!) things that I can’t help but laugh, especially if he’s saying things with a straight face as if these are normal stuff.
The challenges in the first part or at least the ones I had a hard time with need Stellactrum that he has. For some reason, the game keeps giving me 4-star Xavier cards so he really helps me during the early part of the game.
Zayne / Rei
Zayne convinced me to download the game lol. He’s MC’s childhood friend and now, her doctor. Rei turns out to be… hard to like. He’s so serious, so majime. I can’t even jokingly reply to his texts because he’ll answer seriously. But actually, he looks after the MC a lot. He’s not as goofy as Raf or random as Seiya, but he has his own charm. I used to hate how he kept letting MC play the claw game when all I wanted was for him to get the plushies (because I’m a lazy player heh). Then, I realized that he may be doing that because MC likes playing the claw machine, so he wants her to have fun. He has his subtle ways of looking after the MC that I find sweet.
Rafayel / Homura
Oh my god this guy. I was pretty sure I wouldn’t like him. He is such a drama queen. A diva. He loves trolling the MC. But oh my god, once you get used to him, he’s charming. He’s only playful with MC but closed off to others. Now, I look forward to his theatrics because it’s fun.
Oh, did I mention that he looks hot in his sportswear? Him and Rei, but especially Raf.
Sylus / Shin
Boss Man. He’s the guy your mom warns you about. I’ve only unlocked Long-Awaited Bevelry (still doing this chapter) and Sylus at the start of April. I still don’t know much about him in terms of the main story other than being the big boss of a mafia-like group. I love his exquisite taste and bluntness, though. I wish the devs would increase the team comps up to 5 so I can have a team for each LI.
Caleb / Mahiru
The other guy who made me download the game, but I haven’t unlocked him yet lol. Despite that, the RNG gods seem to have a Caleb agenda for my account as I have the most 5-star cards of him. On his last myth run, I got both his solar cards by winning the 50/50 back-to-back! I’ve never been so lucky in gacha. Like what the girlies on LaDS subreddit mentioned, his X-02 companion is OP. I’m so glad I spent my dias on him. And I can’t wait to meet him again in-game.
Who’s my favorite? ALL OF THEM HAHA. I’m a harem girlie. But I’m also poor so I can’t fully whale. I’ll just save for myth cards so I can have their companions. I’m so sad that I missed Raf’s. I didn’t understand the whole companion thing during his re-run.
