Title: 官能昔話 ポータブル
Company: Otomate
Release Date: January 19, 2012
Platform: PSP
Official Site: http://www.otomate.jp/kannou/
Synopsis:

One night, a guy suddenly shows up in Himeko’s room to tell her stories. However, these stories are not your average “and they live happily ever after” type. Mix of Western and Eastern stories where Himeko will get the chance to be the heroine of every story. Besides the normal ending, there’s also alternate routes and twists that Himeko can experience.

This game focuses more on the stories rather than the characters. With all the twists they made in the original story, they’ll make you ‘lol’, ‘wtf?’, ‘dawww’, and most especially ‘(*´Д`)ハァハァ’. The stories are actually pretty short, like every route is about an hour or so. But they have 7 routes, including the normal route in which you have to complete first for all the characters before going through their alternative endings. After you finish all the endings, you can have a trip to all the locations of the stories with Mr. Guide (as he hits on you as well xDD).

Get ready with your headphones/earphones as there’s a dummy mic in this game. The voices are like whispering right in your ear. (*´Д`)ハァハァ

I also noticed that there isn’t a female voice used here. So for the characters like Hera, Aphrodite, wife etc, you can tell that it’s a man’s voice. Another lol factor that made me giggle while playing xDD.

As this is more on the stories, I’ll try to write the normal routes. Just a note then, my Japanese is horrible so whatever I write here is more like “what I think” than what really happens. ^^;;

Stories

Aohige

THIS. Gosh, I couldn’t take him seriously, I was chuckling during his entire normal route.

So the story is like he met this red-haired girl who wasn’t afraid of him just like most people. The two got married. Then, one day he went somewhere and entrusted his wife with a key. He told her not to go to a room but she still went there. Flabbergasted, she found the bodies of Aohige’s former wives (read: 6 wives (=◇=;)). When he comes back, she is so obvious that she scared; he immediately knew what happened. She got dragged back to the room where he threatened to kill her. Her brothers, then, came just in time and rescued her from Bluebeard. They beat the crap out of him. After that incident, their family got to live in Aohige’s mansion and enjoy his properties.

The first thing that I noticed is his voice. He sounds younger than he looks ( ̄Д ̄;;. I can’t take him seriously lmao. He’s an ossan through & through. I can’t even tell how his wife came to like him. ಠ_ಠ

The other “what if” scenarios are so whatever with all the killings and whatnot. There’s also a scene where the wife has a relationship with the butlers. I was like, “Just GO! Elope with him or something!”. That was…mean lol but if they have made his looks a little younger, I would have probably liked him.

Banchou Sarayashiki

a.k.a The Creeper. (-_\)(/_-)三( ゚Д゚)

Harima loves (and sexually harasses, I say 8D) his helper (err, actually not really sure about the position) Okiku even if he’s married. Then one day, his wife discovers their relationship. To atone for his sins, he chopped Okiku’s body and threw it in a well. The soul of Okiku haunts Harima from then on, even possessing his wife.

Got to love his seiyuu. He is my saving grace for this story. Harima is creepy and a psychopath. But his seiyuu made him bearable for me. Though I still feel that his voice doesn’t fit Harima’s personality. ^^;;

My favorite part was when the plates in their household started talking & plotting against Harima lolol. It’s just so funny! о(ж>▽<)y ☆ After all the psychotic doings Harima did and ghosts haunting him, it’s a relief to have lol moments because of these plates xD.

Leda & the Swan

Zeus, being the model god that he is, falls in love with a human named Leda. Much to his luck, Leda’s husband is out in the battlefield so Zeus transformed into a swan to be near her. Leda has taken a liking to this swan and even talks to it even without knowing that it’s the great Zeus. One day, she slipped into the water (lake? river? pond? (@Д@;). The Greek god rescued her and take her back to her room. Earlier that day she mentioned how lonely she is when her husband isn’t around and so Zeus went to the camp with Aphrodite to persuade him to come back. Leda’s husband and Spartan’s Kind, Tyndareus, sees them but since he’s a King he cannot leave the war just like that. That night, Zeus comes back to Leda’s room transformed as Tyndareus and the two ‘reunites’ all night long ヽ(´ー`)ノ. The two have twin sons, one is a human & the other is immortal. The human one died but since the remaining twin doesn’t want to be separated from him, they are made into stars.

The part in the normal route where Zeus came back as Tyndareus (I’m actually not sure about the katakana of this orz), they sound like they’re having a 3P night with two different voices whispering into your ear. (・A・)

I’m usually into Greek mythology but I found this one boring. I think, out of all the stories, this is my least fave (okay maybe 2nd to the last before Aohige :3). Zeus is no doubt the other man here lolol. The poor guy gets cockblocked by almost EVERYONE omg. And his supposed to be happy ending wasn’t really that happy. He’s the only one who wasn’t able to end up with his lady love. ┐(‘~`;)┌

Hosokawa Tadaoki

THIS. wahahaha! My notes is full of “bwahahaha” and “XD” because of Tadaoki (whom I repeatedly called Tadokawa throughout his route /o)

The normal route isn’t that funny though. He marries Tamahime, has a kid, then takes her in the mountains to live. He goes even further as imprisoning her to a cage after he slashes the gardener when he caught them TALKING to each other. Ugh ಠ_ಠ. So while imprisoned, Tamahime discovered Christ and talks about it to Tadaoki. His yandere mode is switched on upon hearing this. Then, he kills other Christians out there. Saddened by this, she decided to kill herself but can’t since she’s a Christian. So she asked a servant to kill her instead. When Tadaoki founds this, he cries his eyes out and says he’ll follow her too…Uhm okay.

Tadaoki is amusing when he is not in his yandere self. I loled hard when Tamahime and him get raburabu on the other ed. Or the scene where he’s stuttering and blushing when Tamahime trolled him. His inner thoughts are also lol-worthy. The best part is his crying drunk self. That was EPIC! (≡^∇^≡)

Hansel & Gretel

This follows the usual story of the two siblings who find a house made of sweets. Of course, Hansel and Gretel are lured by this and eats the house until the witch let them come in and eat more. The witch fattens Hansel while she lets Gretel do all the work. When she caught Hansel feeding Gretel through his mouth, she rages and tells Hansel to cook his sister in the stove. However, Hansel tricks the witch and pushes her inside instead. After the witch died, the two found lots of jewels in the house. They take it and leaves the house.

Hansel is another one who seems to have the wrong seiyuu. He looks shota but his voice is that of a teenager (´_`。). Another thing, Hansel is a massive siscon! xD I’m envious of their relationship though (envious of those who have brothers lololol). He is apparently taking advantage of his position of a brother ( ´艸`). But too much love = yandere tendencies. ^^;;

The other spin-off stories are pretty good with the chipmunk ghosts and the harem of ghosts. Too bad the endings are meh when it could have been a great story. They should have made more grown-up Hansel because he is so much hotter as an adult. (〃∇〃)

Issun Boushi

He is born small but optimistic. He goes to the city and becomes a servant (but he’s more of … XD) to the princess. One day while walking outside, they meet a demon and Issun tries to fight it. But then, the demon eats him. Issun pokes the demon’s inside, spilling him and dropping a shiny thing (I don’t know how they call it ^^;;). The princess makes a wish on it and he becomes taller. The two get married and they live happily ever after. :*:・( ̄∀ ̄)・:*:

Issun is hot and so as his route. I couldn’t ask for more. (〃∇〃)

I can say that he has the most solid story out of the 7 or at least I wan’t like “wut…(″・ิ_・ิ)っ” in any of his endings. Moreover, they always love and end up with each other (yes I’m eyeing you Zeus) and/or killing either of them. All in all, I’m satisfied with this one.

Mermaid Princess

The mermaid princess falls in love with a prince who happens to fall into the water during a storm. She saves him and the prince gets to have a glimpse of her. Mermaid princess goes to the witch and traded her beautiful voice for human legs. The prince found her ashore and lets her live in his castle. She is having a tough time because of her new legs, aside from not being able to talk. Her sisters tell her to just kill the prince and everything will be over and done. Because of her love to him, she can’t do it. Still, she turns into a foam when they kiss (and when the prince finally realizes that it’s her he’s been searching for).

ALL MY FEELINGS~~ ・°・(ノД`)・°・ Okay. So I’m biased when it comes to fairy tales so I obviously chose this to be the last story for that reason AND for the Prince. O.M.G Ouji-samaaa~~☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆ /shot

This one is not as satisfying as Issun Boushi but still pretty good. Every time they can’t be together, I’m dying with them 。・゚゚・(≧д≦)・゚゚・。. So to redeem my broken heart, I have to redo the happy end not only because I want to see them happy but also because the Prince is HOT (〃∇〃)(〃∇〃).

Art & Music

The art and music are pretty and quite melancholic. The theme they used is very fitting to the fairytale setting. Even the coloring suits the mood of the stories.

Overall

This is pretty much enjoyable to play. I admit there are some parts I found myself spacing out but it isn’t enough to say that this disappointed me. You can play this whichever order you like, it doesn’t matter. But if you’re after Mr. Guide, then you’ll have to finish all routes. You shouldn’t expect much though.

If you need something to play but have limited time just like me, then this is the game for you! o/

  1. I’ve been squealing all the way through the post xD Talking in weird tones too XDD
    Really good post about Kannou Portable ^O^b The girls in the stories look quite nice too (unlike other games.. D:)

    1. XDD I’ve realized that I used a little too much emoji on my post. I hope it didn’t distract you from reading. ^^;;
      Thank you! ヽ(´▽`)/
      True~! Everyone is eyecandy and at least they didn’t make them plain looking. u.u

  2. Thanks to your review, I feel more motivation in playing this LOL. /finally opened it and got it on my PSP
    I’ll just have to decide what order I want to play in. =w=b But I suppose I’ll leave Tatsun and Sakurai for last since everyone seems to like their stories.

    1. I’ve read from my TL that you’ve already started playing this. How was it? 😀
      omg yes, leave them for last! (〃∇〃) Especially since Issun have all the good endings. :)))

      1. I wanted to go after Harima first but then I realised only later you’ve to clear all the stories once first before you can do alternate endings…? Huhuh. /slow So as of now I’ve only done the normal route for Harima. I’ll try to do the others later today which should be a breeze since I’ve listened to them in the drama CDs already (except Aohige).
        I’m thinking of doing Harima -> Aohige -> Tadaoki -> Zeus -> Hansel -> Prince -> Issun. :3

        1. Ah yes. You have to play all the normal endings first before you can unlock the alternative endings I think I forgot to include that here. ^^;; Oh you’re not. I was like that too.

          Oooh, that’s nice! If I didn’t drill on my head that I’ll do Aohige first, I would have chosen Harima as my first story since I’m not a fan of ghosts, possessing bodies etc. xD;;

          1. Huhuh. /o

            LOL. Either way, our playing order is almost the same. 8DD I just decided to do Harima first as I prefer his seiyuu.

  3. Yes, definitely perfect for filling time (and after playing the long-life Peter Pan!).

    Agree with you, I also like Issun Boushi’s route. It almost end with happy end. Also his voice! Suzuki Tatsuhisa, I missed him since Shinigami to Shoujo! The second is mermaid princess. I’m always crying upon reading/hearing its story. Don’t know why.. It makes me very sad, also because of Sakurai’s voice. The third is Tadaoki with his drunken route and Tokugawa-Hideyoshi teasing him.

    1. Unlike everybody else, even if it isn’t really that happy at least Issun got to stay beside his dear hime <333 You're right, it's just too painful to see the prince & the mermaid princess not getting their happy ending even after all the sacrifices the princess did for love. TT___TT
      And don't forget the stuttering Tadaoki XDDD His route would have probably be one of my faves too if not for the yandere endings :/

      What are you playing next? I mean, other than Diary? 🙂

  4. 🙂 I just finished playing Little mermaid and Leda & swan. It is such a downhill to me since my reaction for Little Mermaid:(*´▽`*) then after playing Zeus I went into: ( ゚ Д゚) 8.8.

    I’m on aohige, so far he is ok ( ̄ー ̄)

    1. Little Mermaid=Prince *O* omg true, Zeus bored me to death which is a surprised to me since this is Greek mythology and I’m supposed to be enjoying it. ^^;;
      えへへ Aohige-jiji and his younger voice /gets shot. I guess his route isn’t so bad compared with Zeus xD;;

  5. Tempt to play this but alas I don’t have PSP (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
    Aohige= young voice? /bricked lololol my mental image for him destroyed xDD;

    1. Sorry late reply u.u
      xD His voice is kinda young for his looks. I was expecting it to be deep. ^^;; At first I thought I was being trolled lolol
