Ever since he was a child, Prince Uriel has always dreamed of searching for the lost city of Rowadis rumored to be buried somewhere deep in the desert. One day, he manages to sneak out of his country to join an excavation party in the hopes of learning more about his beloved Rowadis. However, the barren land turns out to be a dangerous place for the prince and he is captured by the savage Seldira clan. Follow the adventures of the young prince as he gets tangled up with the handsome leader of the Seldira and unlocks the mysteries of the desert.
I’m in Sera mood lately after reading her story in Pink Gold (which I will make a post soon :D). There are only a few titles she made and one of them is Tsuki to Yabanjin.
Tsuki to Yabanjin, or Moon and Savage, reminds me of a BL story (for the life of me I can’t remember the title) wherein both main characters go to visit a foreign country. Later on, they are taken in and journeyed with a guy whom they’ve only met in the desert.
Our main character, Prince Uriel of the Kingdom of Lafarge has always been obsessed with the search of the ruins of Rowadis — a luscious city which sinks to the bottom of the desert in one night. Being a prince, he is pampered and sheltered by his attendant. What I like about him is that despite his upbringing he is humble and have a dignified personality. He thinks first before committing an action. He doesn’t take things for granted nor bear a grudge against other people. Yes, he is innocent but he isn’t a pushover. He knows when to fight back and when to lower his head and apologize.
Of course, as a uke, he has a fair share of “no, stop, wait” lines. The thing is that he easily admits that he is attracted to Ald. He is honest with his feelings if not only for his status that he has to consider things first.
The guy who leads the Shimura clan is Ald. He instantly likes Uriel. He appears brute and overbearing, the type of seme who will just penetrate the uke against the other’s will. At the same time, he is sweet and passionate when it comes to Uriel that it is disheartening to see him broken-hearted.
Other than the obvious pairing Ald and Uriel, I love the relationship of Uriel and Alvie. Alvie showed a familial kind of love to Uriel even if they are not bonded by blood. It makes a great impact on how Uriel still grows up and live like a normal person. I’m trying to see until the very end if Alvie ever harbors a different kind of love for his master. But nope, never.
The romance is played out nicely. First, there is an attraction. Followed by, understanding and falling deeply into each other. The pace is properly timed to make everything worked out. However, some parts are less tackled. If you are looking for political twists, look somewhere else. Uriel has had enough of the political drama. For those who want more of history and archaeology, you might want to look somewhere else too. History and archaeology are not really the main point of the story.
Sera seems to like drawing them hot guys in detail without any blurs or magically disappearance of the anatomical part. Ald provides some really good fanservice with all the ripping of clothes or tossing them aside is one of the examples of how detailed his/her manga can be. It also gives off humor just like how Uriel’s shirt flies, showing his butt. xD
Wrapping up!
Tsuki to Yabanjin is a satisfying read. Not something great nor something new. Yet it captured my attention until I’m completely drawn to the story with a mixture of romance, humor, history, and perhaps tad drama. The characters are charming and so is the art. I’m keeping an eye on more Sera works. For now, go ahead and give this a read.
