watashi no ookami-kun 1

Watashi no Ookami-kun is something I enjoyed reading but won’t get a high score from me if I’m using a rating system. It’s a pretty good read but nothing stellar nor griping about it. At least, none so far.

Komugi transfers school from Tokyo and gets seated next to school’s most popular guy. Oogami-kun is friendly, if not overly attached, towards Komugi. She tries to keep her distance but accidentally discovers his secret which makes things a little bit more complicated. Especially when feelings get involved.

Watashi no Ookami-kun reminds me of a less dramatic Fruits Basket. But while I mentioned that this has a pretty okay story, one thing that glued me to the pages is Komugi. She is cool, calm, and collected. She is much “normal” than other shoujo heroines with her non-exaggerated reactions. In a span of one volume, Komugi shows growth in her character and have taken a great leap from her initial skeptic self.

The art is pretty despite everyone being lanky, in contrast to their fluffy hair. But, I had trouble distinguishing the characters especially Oogami’s friends, Fushimi and Aoshi. They are almost identical save for the eyes which make it hard for me to recognize either of them in the first few pages they appeared.

Watashi no Ookami-kun volume 1 makes me want to read more of Oogami x Komugi romance. They’re so cute together! I just can’t get enough of the cool Komugi and the adorable dork Yuu.
