[Trial] Sentimental Trickster (and some updates)

Hey guys! It’s been a while. ^O^

I’ve been kinda busy with RL stuff (adulting is serious bsns lol) so this blog is on a mini hiatus. But it doesn’t mean that I haven’t been playing or reading. I’ve just finished playing Zero Time Dilemma, and currently juggling Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Dual Destinies and Code: Realize (Lupin <3). These days, you can usually find me on Twitter squeeing on random things. :3

Anyhow, you probably know that I’m always out-of-the-loop on news. I just can’t keep up and I give up trying u_u. If it wasn’t for a commenter named Justyna, I wouldn’t have the slightest idea of the existence of the game called Sentimental Trickster!

It’s just a demo for now. BUT it looks promising. Well, the commenter I mentioned above is none other than the creator of the game! According to the Kickstarter site:

Sentimental Trickster puts you in charge of Haru and all the important choices ahead. To be honest, your protagonist is not sure he’s made the right ones so far. The only thing he’s sure about is that he’s lost. Maybe moving to a big city wasn’t such a good idea after all? Especially when your boarding house is in the middle of a freaking big, black forest. Well, at least he meets a hot guy who shows him the way. Now the only thing left to do is start attending classes, graduate and become independent… that is, if you can even make a living after finishing an arts college.

For Haru, making friends is hard and dealing with housemates can get awkward. Ballet-dancing-with-a-peg-leg kind of awkward. He’s tough to bring down, though. At the end of the day, he tries to look at the bright side. Occasional weird thoughts and a wicked sense of humor help. Oh, and let’s not forget that you’re in charge here. People are complicated, but with a little bit of effort you can help Haru get close to those you deem worthy of knowing. Maybe even deal with the things he’d rather keep hidden…

 

Sentimental Trickster is a BL visual novel in which every choice matters. This means that you will have the power to make or break. And when I say break, I mean with a big bang and to tiny pieces. Had a lousy day at work? Don’t worry, you can make sure the guys have it worse. But will you be able to face the consequences of your choices?

The demo is at least one hour long, if you include choosing all the choices available and seeing everything there is to see. I liked what I see in the demo, that’s for sure. Before starting the game, I was worried Haru (and everyone for that matter) would turn out being overly-(insert trait here). Thank goodness, there’s just the right amount of snark and wit. I loved the humor too. Not too sarcastic or trying hard.

Guessed what TOTALLY caught my eye??? The art! Specifically, the coloring, the shading, and those backgrounds! <3 <3 <3 I’m a sucker for good bgs and for an indie game (made by one person no less), it is awesome!

While the creator said that they did everything except for the music, I think they still fared well on that aspect. I fell in love with that chimey~ bg music. It is feel good and light, befitting the light mood of the game.

Now, I still couldn’t see where the title fits in the story but I think  this is going to be a fun game.

My only complaint is…

…too short! The demo ended right when I was getting a good feel of the game. Oh well.
