[First Impressions] Binary Star

I’m starting another otome game! Hehe. I feel like it’s been so long since I’ve played one.

Binary Star is released in the early years of PS Vita. It also seems like one of the best games for the console. This game has been on my Vita since 2016 but I’ve only gotten to play it now. 😌

Here’s the summary from VNDB:

When she was 7 years old, what Sorano Fuu (the protagonist) saw in her living room were the lifeless bodies of her beloved parents, who had died at the hands of an unknown culprit.

 

Taken in by a group of people known as “Tenshi”, Fuu asks them why her parents were killed. One of the Tenshi said to the young Fuu, “Your parents were “Dealers”, who are people that sell “Hoshi”. That is why they were killed.

 

Her parents were criminal vendors of the illegal-to-sell, taboo Hoshi on a large scale. This truth greatly troubled Fuu, and so she made a vow – to atone for her deceased parents’ crimes.

 

Now, the 20-year-old Fuu is a Tenshi who protects Akatsuki, a town in Cloud.

 

There was something she saw through the many missions she completed with her colleagues. That “something” is their sad pasts, all of which revolve around Hoshi.

 

They are still bound by the past; will they be able to break free of the curse of their pasts?”

Story

I have this habit of starting a series without really reading what is it about. The same thing happened for Binary Star.

When I opened the game, the shining, shimmering art style fooled me into thinking that the story is light. I never expected a serious story! It has an unexpectedly dark undertone delivered in a light way.  Instead of being a turn-off, it made me more interested in the game.

Characters

The game opens with Fuu’s past and the reason why she wanted to be a Tenshi. I expected her to be uptight, morally-correct MC. Then I thought the guys would be all elite-like princes.

As it turns out, everyone is a dork. Dork, dorks, dorksss everywhere.

And I love them.

They all have their own quirks which make this game enjoyable. And they’re all perverts wanting to get close to Fuu lol.

I’m starting my game with Yun (the one picture at the top) who is like the classic perverted, romanticist as you can see with his introduction.

There’s also the resident shota, Mict, who acts like a gentleman. Bu on some instances, he also let loose his perverted side. I call him the closet pervert. 😀

Rayla is cool and looks like an elite but is afraid of heights.

Meanwhile, Tchikai is such an airhead but I find his child-like antics adorable.

I can’t help but wonder if the guy who helps Fuu before will make an appearance too? 🤔

I absolutely love the art! Just look at the background screenshot above! Super cute! It’s so bright and sparkly. It’s like the whole game is the embodiment of the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Song.

Music

Even the BGMs have that lullaby feel. But in contrast to that, the opening song is very cool with its rock tune.

Enjoyment (✯◡✯)

I have only finished the common route which is pretty short and still in the middle of Yun’s route. But even so, I can say that I love it a lot! I’m definitely curious how things are going to play out.

My play order is going to be Yun -> Rayla -> Mict -> Tchikai -> Secret Character. I’m very curious about this Secret Character. I haven’t spoiled myself yet so I’m excited to unlock his route.

It’s hard to choose! I laughed out loud every time the characters fool around each other. Anyway, here’s one of them.

Everyone gets their own uniform and they are free to design their clothes according to their preferences. Mict is tasked to help the members with their designs. Here’s his reaction to Rayla’s uniform:
