After eight years and 18 volumes, Sai Yukinowill end The Story of Saiunkoku (Saiunkoku Monogatari) light novel series on Thursday. In this fantasy set in Saiunkoku (an empire inspired by ancient China), a poor yet noble family’s daughter named Shuurei rises through the ranks of the imperial palace.

The light novels have 6 million copies in print, and they inspired a manga series (by novel illustrator and Angelique character designer Kairi Yura) and two television anime series between 2006 and 2008.

Weeks before an official news was released, the cover was already leaked. I’m just hoping that Shuurei will have a happy ending. Afterall, she deserves it. ^^

EDIT:

Thanks to natsumi for posting the link of the spoiler for chapter 17 and 18. You can now finally read it here: http://himeyasha.blogspot.com/search/label/Manga%20%2F%20Novels

    1. I’m sorry but I don’t know…and I don’t think the English version is already complete. I’m not entirely sure though. ^^;;

  2. the anime is great..season 1 & 2 are pretty good..but what hurts most is the spoiler that i have read..its so sad!!.i never thought that it would end like that,as written in the light novels..:((((

  3. I just bought the final volume of The Story of Saiunkoku (the manga version). I thought that it would have a ending but it did not. I was so upset 🙁 and when I read the summary of the final novel of the light novel series, I cried. It is so sad and I am so disappointed. What a waste of time and money. I wanted a happy ending.

  4. I already signed the petition few days ago however I’ve downloaded the copies of the last 2 volumes and as expected, they were published in original version. The summaries from the blogs for 17 and 18 were okay however I’m hoping that I could read the details of what really happened to the story
